**Undergraduate Texts In Mathematics**

**Undergraduate Texts in Mathematics (UTM)** is a series of undergraduate-level textbooks in mathematics published by Springer-Verlag. The books in this series, like the other Springer-Verlag mathematics series, are small yellow books of a standard size. As of April 2008, there are a hundred and forty four titles in the series.

The books in this series tend to be written at a more elementary level than the similar Graduate Texts in Mathematics series, although there is a fair amount of overlap between the two series in terms of material covered and difficulty level.

### Famous quotes containing the words mathematics and/or texts:

“I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study *mathematics* and philosophy.”

—John Adams (1735–1826)

“I know that I will always be expected to have extra insight into black *texts*—especially *texts* by black women. A working-class Jewish woman from Brooklyn could become an expert on Shakespeare or Baudelaire, my students seemed to believe, if she mastered the language, the *texts*, and the critical literature. But they would not grant that a middle-class white man could ever be a trusted authority on Toni Morrison.”

—Claire Oberon Garcia, African American scholar and educator. Chronicle of Higher Education, p. B2 (July 27, 1994)
