A subunit is a subdivision of a larger unit.

  • In military organizations, a sub-unit is smaller in size than a battalion and is commanded by an Officer Commanding.
  • In chemistry, the term can refer to a monomer.
  • In biochemistry, it may apply to the protein subunits.
