Sisa Waqa is a Fijian rugby union and league player. He is currently with the Melbourne Storm club in Australia National Rugby League.
Waqa grew up playing rugby league and represented Fiji at under-19, under-21 and international level. He then moved to Sydney in 2008, where he played for Gordon RFC. He starred and was offered a contract with the ACT Brumbies in the Super 14 competition. The ARU refused to register the contract as he had played for Fiji and was deemed an international. Instead he signed for the Sydney Roosters in the NRL for the 2009 season. Waqa then signed a three-year contract to play for French top-14 club Montauban, however that fell through due to the club experiencing financial difficulties. He then played in Sydney for the 2010 season in the local competition before Craig Bellamy was notified of his availability.
After a three-month trial during the pre-season, Waqa was signed to a one-year contract after impressing throughout the trial matches against Canberra and Brisbane. Waqa has been playing in the NSW Cup for Melbourne Storm feeder team Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, who have a joint venture with the Melbourne Storm. On the wing, had a shaky start but has scored 4 tries in two games. He made his debut by scoring a try when Melbourne Storm faced Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium Round 9 7/5/2011. Waqa played in Round 12 against the Cronulla Sharks against his NSW Cup team-mates, he scored a try and set up one for the Melbourne Storm. He played again in RND 13 against the South Sydney Rabbitohs where he took an AFL-style catch and ran 30 meters; he also juggled a ball that was about to be dropped which led the Storm to score the game-sealing try.
Since then, Waqa hasn't been dropped for any games. Waqa scored his third try for the Storm on 9 July in the Storm's 28-18 win over the Canterbury Bulldogs in Adelaide. He also scored a try in the Storm's 22-18 comeback win over the Parramatta Eels. Waqa was suspended for one week over the incident between Adam Blair and Glenn Stewart. He had come off the bench to pull players off and to assist Blair in the 5-on-1 situation.
Waqa starred in the Melbourne Storm's 2012 Grand Final win over the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in his outstanding defensive strategy, which assisted the Storm to a 4-14 point win over the minor premiers. In 2013 he played in Storm's World Club Challenge victory over Leeds.
