List of Plants By Common Name (Sonoran Desert) - Nomenclature

  • The Common names of plants often vary from region to region. Thus the Latin name — the Binomial nomenclature for "Genus" and "species" — need to be the final names used for identifying plants. (Note: these botanical Latin names are occasionally subdivided further into variety, race, cultivar, and other subgroups by using a third name too.)
  • Many individual plant species have "multiple" common names. Some "See: x,y" references will be found in this list cross referencing those and shared common names.
