List Of Ant Genera (alphabetical)
The following is a thus far incomplete list of worldwide ant genera. Those no longer considered current nomenclature are marked with an asterisk (*).
Genera are often named after famous myrmecologists - e.g. Donisthorpea was named to honour Horace Donisthorpe, Forelius for Auguste Forel, Janetia for Charles Janet, Wheeleriella for William M. Wheeler. See the list of notable myrmecologists for a compilation of these people.
Famous quotes containing the words genera, list and/or ant:
“Genius detects through the fly, through the caterpillar, through the grub, through the egg, the constant individual; through countless individuals the fixed species; through many species the genus; through all genera the steadfast type; through all the kingdoms of organized life the eternal unity. Nature is a mutable cloud which is always and never the same.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Lovers, forget your love,
And list to the love of these,
She a window flower,
And he a winter breeze.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
“The owl is abroad, the bat and the toad,
And so is the cat-a-mountain;
The ant and the mole sit both in a hole,
And frog peeps out o the fountain.”
—Ben Jonson (15721637)
