Induction Motors

Some articles on induction motor, induction motors, motors, motor, induction:

Induction Motor - Construction
... The stator of an induction motor consists of poles carrying supply current to induce a magnetic field that penetrates the rotor ... Induction motors are most commonly run on single-phase or three-phase power, but two-phase motors exist in theory, induction motors can have any number of phases ... Many single-phase motors having two windings can be viewed as two-phase motors, since a capacitor is used to generate a second power phase 90 degrees from the single-phase supply and ...
Garbage Disposal Unit - Operation
... A high-torque, insulated electric motor, usually rated at 250–750 watts (⅓ to 1 horsepower) for a domestic unit, spins a circular turntable mounted ... Induction motors rotate at 1,400–1,800 RPM and have low starting torque commutator motors rotate at higher speeds (about 2,800 rpm), have high starting torque, and are usually ... However commutator motors are noisier than induction motors, partially due to the higher speeds and partially because the commutator brushes rub on the slotted armature ...
IEEE Nikola Tesla Award - Recipients
... Shah, General Electric (Niskayuna, New York) 2011 - Nady Boules, General Motors (Warren, Michigan) 2010 - Paul C ... and operating practices to optimize induction motor performance ... models and computational tools for induction machine design ...
Synchronous Condenser - Application
... An over-excited synchronous motor has a leading power factor ... Both transformers and induction motors draw lagging (magnetising) currents from the line ... On light loads, the power drawn by induction motors has a large reactive component and the power factor has a low value ...
Induction Motor - Speed Control
... The theoretical unloaded speed (with slip approaching zero) of the induction motor is controlled by the number of pole pairs and the frequency of the supply voltage ... When driven from a fixed line frequency, loading the motor reduces the rotation speed ... When used in this way, induction motors are usually run so that in operation the shaft rotation speed is kept above the peak torque point then the motor will tend to run at ...

Famous quotes containing the words motors and/or induction:

When General Motors has to go to the bathroom ten times a day, the whole country’s ready to let go. You heard of that market crash in ‘29? I predicted that.... I was nursing a director of General Motors. Kidney ailment, they said; nerves, I said. Then I asked myself, “What’s General Motors got to be nervous about?” “Overproduction,” I says. “Collapse.”
    John Michael Hayes (b. 1919)

One might get the impression that I recommend a new methodology which replaces induction by counterinduction and uses a multiplicity of theories, metaphysical views, fairy tales, instead of the customary pair theory/observation. This impression would certainly be mistaken. My intention is not to replace one set of general rules by another such set: my intention is rather to convince the reader that all methodologies, even the most obvious ones, have their limits.
    Paul Feyerabend (1924–1994)
