I guess that there are not too many CIOs or CFOs reading this.

However, the author -- himself a CFO -- gives some excellent advise to get your IT budget approved. And I think you can apply his plan even if you only need some additional capabilities to your daily PC, Mac or workstation. Principles remain the same -- even if you don't plan to become a CIO anytime soon.

Why Squirrels Manage Storage Better Than You Do

As everybody knows, storage is not a sexy topic. However, about half of capital technology budget is spent on it. So it's serious stuff.

And there is an explosion of worldwide storage capacity these days, largely attributed to our Web world. One Gartner analyst estimates that storage "will skyrocket from 283,000 terabytes in 2000 to more than 5 million terabytes by 2005."

WOW! I like large numbers, but this one came to me as a surprise.

Time for a Mainframe Makeover

I am quoting this article for two reasons.

First, it's interesting to realize that there are so many mainframe applications around, running for 10 or 15 yearsby now, and obviously not ready to interact with the web.

Then, I really like the subtitle of the story: "Your legacy systems aren't aging any more gracefully than you are. Deal with it."
